What we built before the world turned upside down
Possibly the nicest Super Chief we’ve ever built, this absolutely unique Super Chief had lots of neat details for the HGGS show.

One of the most enjoyable perks of our business is being able to travel to interesting places (most of the time) for guitar shows. These events run the gambit from convention center builders to hotel rooms. The fun ones though are in both in places that are fun on their own like Berlin, Montreal, Vancouver, Nashville etc AND are filled with our fellow luthier friends. The BEST is the Holy Grail Guitar Show in Berlin, an event that we have not been able to attend as often as we wanted. For 2020 they announced that it would be their final show so we pulled out all the stops on a pair of guitars. Unfortunately, COVID19 appeared and this show had to cancel but lucky for us our dealer Guitars to be Played bought both of these and took some truly amazing photos. Enjoy!
When The Tree meets a Super Chief
First up, tortoise purfling. A first for us. It compliments the Taos Turquoise paint.
Just an incredible piece of wood. Probably the nicest we will ever have in our lifetime. There is no tint on the back, this is it’s natural color!
What’s TRULY special here is he quilted MAHOGANY back from The Tree. This piece was a gift from a great friend and we pulled out all the stops to make this Super Chief special.
We really struggled with what color scheme to pair up to the quilted mahogany back but rather than go for some sort of quilted maple top, we really thought a solid color top would truly make the back stand out as special. Love this entire color scheme!
The quilted maple Banshee Deluxe
In for a penny, in for a pound. Might as well go full on quilt! This Banshee Deluxe features an incredible piece of quilted maple, bound in white plastic. We went back and forth on color but ended up wanting to do this magma red, lava inspired dyed finish. I don’t know.. lava…lava cake… land of chocolate. Yep, adds up! Our KauerBuckers with silverfoil covers and just elegance all around. It’s not often we do super extravagant woods like this, especially on Banshee but I think maybe we should more often.
